Apple is opening Siri to rival AI assistants. According to multiple reports, iOS 27 will introduce an “Extensions” system that lets iPhone users pick Claude, Gemini or ChatGPT for Apple Intelligence features — the first time Anthropic’s Claude becomes a built‑in option on the iPhone.
The setting will live in the Apple Intelligence & Siri section of Settings, and the reports suggest you’ll be able to route different jobs to different providers — say, Gemini for research, Claude for coding help, ChatGPT for creative drafts. It’s slated for iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 this fall.
The twist: Gemini powers Siri itself
Separately, Apple has reportedly licensed a custom ~1.2‑trillion‑parameter Gemini model from Google — at a price said to be near $1 billion a year — to serve as the backbone of Siri’s cloud intelligence. So the rebuilt Siri leans on Google, while you get to bolt on the assistant you prefer on top.
For most people the practical question is simple: which assistant should you actually choose? We pit them against each other in our tested roundup of the best AI chatbots, and head‑to‑head in ChatGPT vs Claude.
